A Behavioral Health Technician helps care for patients with behavioral disorders or problems. They work in hospitals, mental health facilities, or shelters, assisting doctors to carry out treatment plans. Behavioral Health Technicians are people who:
Behavioral Health Technicians (BHT) Care for individuals with mental or emotional conditions or disabilities, following the instructions of physicians or other health practitioners. BHT’s may also monitor patients’ physical and emotional well-being and report to medical staff. In addition, BHT’s may participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs, help with personal hygiene, and administer oral or injectable medications.
The Metro South/West Workforce Board partners with MassBay Community College to provide Behavioral Health Technician 1 and 2 training for free to eligible residents of Massachusetts. This is a hybrid 8-week program with some travel required to the MassBay campus in Framingham. Participants must be at least 18 years of age, able to work in the US and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Multilingual Individuals with cultural knowledge of Latino, Haitian, African, or Portuguese communities is a plus. No prior healthcare experience is necessary. Income guidelines and residency restrictions apply.
